When it comes to achieving healthy-looking hair, hydration is everything.  In this blog, Laura Elliott, Head of Education at Neäl & Wølf shares how to hydrate your hair, including the best hair products for dry hair, as well as lifestyle tips.

1. Use a moisturising hair mask

A moisturising hair mask should be a staple part of your haircare routine. The right one can transform the look and feel of dry hair after just one use, so choose carefully! Our HYDRATE Moisture Mask solution uses a blend of avocado, jojoba, crambe abyssinica and argan oil to nourish and replenish your locks. For an intense treatment, apply to the mids and ends of the hair and then leave overnight before rinsing off. Find out more: How to Use Our HYDRATE Moisture Mask

2. Maintain hair with a nourishing shampoo

Always start your hair washing routine with a hydrating shampoo designed to gently cleanse hair whilst adding moisture. Our HYDRATE Moisture Shampoo is expertly formulated to quench dry hair, thanks to a blend of silk protein and shea extract that leaves hair softer, shinier, and more manageable. Simply massage through wet hair, rinse, and repeat.

3. Condition with intention

Follow up your shampoo with a conditioner that does more than detangle - choose an option that gives a daily dose of hydration to your dry or damaged locks. Our HYDRATE Moisture Conditioner contains shea butter and argan oil, working to repair, strengthen and seal in moisture. Apply from mid-lengths to ends and leave on for a few minutes to allow it to lock onto your cuticles, before rinsing away.

 4. Hydrate on the go

Ensure that you’re always prepped to protect against dry hair with products that hydrate. It can be easy to slip into using different hair products when you’re not at home, but whether you’re heading for a trip away or just to the gym, keep your hydrating hair essentials close by. Mini travel hair products like our HYDRATE Mini Essentials Collection are ideal for stowing in your bag for whenever you require, so you can stick to your nourishing haircare routine, View more of our products: Travel Size Minis

5. Use heat protection

From heat styling products to UV rays, all things hot can quickly dehydrate your hair when you’re not protected in the right way. Heat protection can be the difference between dry, scorched locks and healthy hair. Our MIRACLE Rapid Blow-Dry Mist speeds up blow-dry time by up to 50%, whilst also adding moisture and protecting against heat damage. Shake well to activate, then spray across hair section by section. View our full range: Heat Protection Sprays

6. Consider hair oils

Hair oils are key to maintaining hydration across your hair - just a few drops can transform thirsty strands into smooth, silky lengths. Our VELVET Nourishing Hair Oil uses argan, avocado and jojoba oil to add moisture, tame frizz and leave hair looking radiant. Use on clean, damp hair, or apply to dry hair to finish off your style.

7. Don’t over-wash

Washing your hair too much can strip it of its natural oils, leaving it feeling dry and dull. Whilst nothing feels better than freshly washed locks, it’s important to strike a balance. For most people, we’d advise washing your hair every other day or every two to three days depending on your hair type. Between washes, we’d recommend using a dry shampoo product like our TEXTURE Dry Shampoo & Finishing Spray. Read more tips: How Often Should You Wash Your Hair

8. Have a cool shower

Hot water might feel good, but it can be really harsh on your hair. High temperatures open the cuticle, allowing essential oils and moisture to escape. Having a lukewarm shower seals the cuticle, locking in hydration and shine. Can’t brave a completely cool shower? Even having a shot of cold water at the end can make all of the difference, helping to keep your hair hydrated.

9. Use a humidifier

Hydration starts with your environment! When you’re in your home, dry air can zap the moisture from your hair - especially if you have the radiators on. Having a humidifier can help replenish the moisture in the air, keeping your locks looking and feeling refreshed. We’d recommend putting a humidifier in your bedroom to ensure hydration as you sleep.

10. Hydrate from the inside out

For complete hydration, you need to go further than your hair. What you put into your body can impact how your hair looks and feels, so ensure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day. Pair that with a nutrient-rich diet full of vitamins and you’ll be nourishing your hair and body.

Hydrating your hair is a commitment, but can have stunning results. By incorporating nourishing oils, protecting your natural moisture, and using the right products, you can transform your hair from dry and dull to soft and shiny. Browse our full range of products for dry hair: Dry Hair Products
