With the hashtag #curlyhairroutine gaining 3.1 billion views on TikTok, curls are soaring in popularity. The right haircare routine can revolutionise your natural curls, so our expert stylist Laura Elliott has shared some top tips on how to look after your hair. Read on to find out more.

Step one: Find the Right Shampoo

Did you know that different hair types play a big role in finding the best shampoo? Whether your hair is curly, fine, straight or dry it’s worthwhile taking time to figure out which product is best for your hair. Curly hair can be naturally quite dry so needs ingredients packed with moisture to achieve glossy curls.

Not all shampoos are suitable for curly hair, so avoid any shampoos that contain mineral oils, as this ingredient gives hair short-term shine, but in the long run it can cause major build up resulting in dryness and irritation. The best shampoo for curly hair will have ingredients that seal in moisture. Proteins like wheat and silk work well as they help increase our hair's natural moisture retention levels. Light oils like Jojoba also help to bind moisture to your curls. Try Neäl & Wølf’s Harmony Intensive Care Shampoo which uses a unique combination of Camelia Seed Oil, Argan Oil and Silk Protein Complex, proven to provide moisture from within. Step Two: Brush With the Right Technique

Myth: people with curls should never brush their hair. In fact, you just need to find the right brush for you! Brushing and finding the right technique to detangle hair can be difficult, especially with curls. If you have curly, coily or wavy hair you must find the right brush and products for your hair type to ease the process.

Knotty hair is often a sign that hair is dry, as when hair is lacking in moisture it is prone to tangles and matting can occur. Hair is most fragile when it is wet, so you should brush it when it is dry from the ends of the hair, upwards. You want the brush to feel like it is gliding through your hair and not creating tension. Before brushing, whilst your hair is still damp, use a lotion or oil to leave your curls shiny. We’d recommend products like our Form Sculpting Lotion which is perfect for curls, as it adds shape and hold. Apply a small amount to your hair when it is wet, then form curls with your fingers. Another alternative solution is our Velvet Nourishing Hair Oil, which contains ingredients that promote softness and shine such as avocado and argan oil, which will lock moisture into the hair shaft making it less frizzy and more manageable. Just simply apply to clean, damp hair. Browse the treatment: Velvet Nourishing Hair Oil

Step Three: Protect Tresses While Sleeping

A good night-time hair routine can be the difference between dry and healthy locks. If there’s one thing that TikTok has taught people, one of the best ways to protect curly hair when you sleep is to use a silk bonnet or scarf.

There are several things you should consider before getting your beauty sleep in. One of the most important things is making sure your hair is dry before hitting the pillow. Hair is weakest when it is wet so when you’re tossing and turning in bed, hair will be more prone to breakage. Our Miracle Rapid Blow-Dry Mist is perfect for curls as it contains avocado and speeds up drying time by up to 50%, which can reduce frizz. When your hair is dry, rest your head on a silk pillowcase or wear a silk bonnet, as this can reduce friction and further prevent frizz. If you’re feeling sleepy after a busy day, this routine works a treat to get you to bed quicker. Learn more: Miracle Rapid Blow-Dry Mist
